2021-2022 Members of the Year

Sustainer of the Year, Mimi M. Hurst

  1. When did you get involved with Junior League of Little Rock?

I became involved with the Junior League by being in the 1984-85 Provisional Class.

  1. What is your favorite memory from your time in the League?

I have so many good memories, but the year 1996-97, serving as President of the League, has many of  my favorite memories because I was able to interact with lots of different League members and the Executive Officers worked closely as a group.  It was an exciting year  for the League. We saw our involvement with the Museum of Discovery solidify, purchased two trees for the Trees for the Future as a part of the new River Market development and saw our third cookbook, Apron Strings, go the printer! Another special memory that year was seeing everyone having  such a good time together at the 75th Anniversary Dance!

  1. What excites you about this Centennial year?

What excites me about the League’s Centennial year are a couple of things. First it gives the opportunity to highlight the positive impacts the League has and continues to have on citizens of Little Rock, Central Arkansas and the State with our volunteer labor and financial support for JLLR’s visionary projects and initiatives over the decades. Secondly, the Centennial year gives opportunities for Actives and/or Sustainers to reconnect together whether with volunteer or social activities!

  1. What do you feel like the League has helped you accomplish either within the League or in your personal/professional life?

I’ve had a myriad of experiences during my years in the League, as both an Active and Sustainer, with many League women, and people in the community. I believe the League has helped me become more open-minded.  In my case, it helped me to understand people and situations from many viewpoints and angles. Experiences gained during volunteering with the League showed me there are many roads to success and one needs to be open to explore all viewpoints and angles before choosing which road to take.

  1. When did you get involved with Junior League of Little Rock?

Growing up, I was always involved in volunteer opportunities. After being removed from long term volunteer opportunities due to my work travel schedule, I found myself missing being plugged into an organization and giving back to my local community. When my job changed and allowed for more life-work balance, I took the opportunity to join the JLLR.

  1. What is your favorite memory from your time in the League?

Friendships made over the years. I’m always amazed by the new friendships made each year with each placement.

  1. When did you get involved with Junior League of Little Rock?

I have been involved with JL for about a year now. I am in the newest new member graduating class and I became involved to give back to my Little Rock/Central AR community. I couldn’t be happier with the impact we have already made in such a short time!

  1. What is your favorite memory from your time in the League?

My favorite memory so far has been getting community focus shift hours at the food bank. There were so many of us working, and we were working HARD. But we had a great time doing it. We laughed and were able to connect with so many amazing women and leaders in our community/JL and really got to see the impact we made that day after we made over 1200 bags for kids to have.

  1. What excites you about this Centennial year?

I am so excited to make our impact bigger and better than ever this year. 100 years is something to celebrate – here is to 100 more!

  1. What do you feel like the League has helped you accomplish either within the League or in your personal/professional life?

The league has helped me grow as a community leader. Serving as the new member spring project chair gave me a lot of insight as to what our JL leadership/community leadership really deals with and I am excited to continue to grow as a leader in JL.
