Boosters and Big Rigs
The Junior League of Little Rock, in partnership with UALR Children International. is hosting a fun family event called Boosters & Big Rigs on Saturday, April 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the UALR Jack Stephens Center and parking lot. The free event includes health screenings and immunizations, car seat safety education, and fun learning experiences with community vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, police cars and more.

Be Wise, Immunize is a health and wellness event that provides health screenings and lifesaving immunications to children accompanied by a parent or gaurdian. This free wellness event is an opportunity for children to get vision, dental, hearing, and wellness screeningsin addition to their regular vaccinations. Last year, over 100 community members were served with over 66 lifesaving imunizations provided.

If you’ve ever secretly wanted to be behind the wheel of a fire truck or touch the siren button of a police car, now is your chance! Touch-a-Truck provides children of all ages an educational and fun opportunity to explore and “touch” vehicles used by our community helpers. Brian and Terri Kinder will be there to share the joy of music with their new "Kinder Safety" CD, jump in a bouncer, get your face painted, and there will even be a hot air balloon! Bring the whole family out for this free event.

This is a hands-on program designed to help prevent deaths and serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes by educating children, ages 3 to 10, their parents, and educators about the importance of buckling up for every ride.
Children and their parents will also learn how to buckle up, and how to determine whether the children need to ride in a booster seat or if they can correctly fit into an adult lap and shoulder belt. Families are educated through school visits and city-wide car seat check-ups sponsored by the Junior League of Little Rock. The Buckle Up and Be Safe committee uses the I'M SAFE! IN THE CAR curriculum as well as a car seat simulator.
At the spring 2011 car seat check up event, the Junior League volunteers and technicians from the UAMS Child Passenger Safety Education Program inspected 76 car seat positions to ensure that car seats and booster seats were properly installed. 33 replacement seats, provided by the Junior League of Little Rock, were distributed. The techicians found a misuse rate of 82% of the cars checked. For safety's sake, please come to the 2012 Buckle Up and Be Safe car seat event and have your child's car seat inspected at no charge.
